Job & Employment Outlook
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that there is currently a substantial demand for Health Care workers and that the market is expected to expand rapidly in the next decade. The Bureau states that “The health care and social assistance sector will account for almost a third of the projected job growth from 2012 to 2022.” In 2012, more than 12 million jobs were in the healthcare industry. The projected growth in job openings in the Health Services industry is expected to be well above the average for all other occupations at 21.5%. Twelve out of the 20 occupations projected to grow the fastest are concentrated in Health Care Services.
Healthcare practitioners and technical occupations are projected to add more than 1.7 million jobs in the next decade. Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. This dramatic growth is a result of an aging population, individuals living longer and requiring more medical services.
