The ASA College Externship is one of the most valuable experiences in our degree programs. Each student is placed with leading companies within their selected field of study. The student’s professional and interpersonal skills are match with a corporate profile and an employer’s list of expectations. This enables our externs to become an invaluable addition to businesses by contributing their knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom. Students gain an opportunity to learn, network, adjust to corporate environment and develop excellent work ethics.

What is the externship training all about?
The externship is a required 3 credit course within ASA’s Associate degree
Students will apply the acquired knowledge and skills in a real work environment, while gaining a better understanding of their career.
It integrates classroom learning with unpaid work experience related to the student’s major.
Externship training lays a solid foundation for successful employment.
Q:: DOES AN “F” GRADE IN THE EXTERNSHIP COURSE REQUIRE THE STUDENT TO REPEAT ALL THE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING CONTACT HOURS?
A : YES.The student must repeat the course entirely.
Q::CAN A STUDENT FINISH THE REQUIRED HOURS BEFORE THE SEMESTER ENDS?
A : NO. (Each student is required to complete their externship in its entirety, 15 weeks)
Q:: IS THERE ANY “LUNCH BREAK” DURING THE EXTERNSHIP DAY?
A : YES. Any student working more than 6 consecutive hours must take a minimum 1/2 hour break which will not count towards their total contact hours.
Q:: CAN TIMESHEET BE REJECTED FOR LACK OF CLARITY?
A : YES. (No corrections or whiteouts are allowed on the timesheet!)
Q:: IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF WEEKLY CONTACT HOURS REQUIRED IN EXTERNSHIP?
A : YES.(Contact the Externship Department for more information)
Q:: CAN A STUDENT COMPLETE THE EXTERNSHIP DURING THEIR SCHEDULED CLASS TIME?
A : NO. All hours completed during the scheduled class time will be deducted from the total hours completed.
Q:: CAN A STUDENT BE FIRED/PULLED FROM HIS/HER EXTERNSHIP SITE?
A : YES. A student can be fired from his/her externship due to poor attitude and/or work habits, immoral or unethical practices, frequent lateness and absences. A student can also be pulled from a site by the Externship Department due to failure to submit weekly timesheets, daily journals and all other required externship documents.
